Airline Digital Writing Guidelines
Creating a new set of digital-friendly writing guidelines.
Client
WestJet
The Challenge
Create writing guidelines specific to the digital space.
The Ask
I spearheaded this initiative after experiencing a lack of guidance for digital products. I also wanted to ensure these new guidelines were accessible to any employee and easily searchable.
Background
General company writing guidelines existed but were in a PDF and had to be downloaded, making it difficult to disseminate updates. When put into practice in the digital space, many did not meet accessibility or UX requirements. There was also a massive amount of inconsistency across products that led me to believe that many content creators were not referencing the existing guidelines.
My Role
I lead the writing and organization of the new digital writing guidelines. Collaborated with content creators to ensure the new guidelines would work across all touchpoints. Worked with design to transform the visual look of the guidelines and find a hosting solution that would make them easy to access.
The Outcome
The new guidelines are a work in progress, and we are adding a new topic approximately every month. These guidelines are now hosted in Zeplin. Future state: we aim to add them to a new microsite to host the entire design system.
